Choosing to sign up for an online Spanish lesson is a big jump into language learning, and I am sure it can be nerve wracking for some people, because this is a relatively new format.

Generally though, the internet when used in this way, provides an amazing set of resources for new language learners, and success comes easily. However, there are 3 bad things that can make that first, or any other live lesson miserable, and they should be avoided whenever possible.

Do Not:

* Be Late- A scheduled online Spanish lesson is a little bit different than a stand alone program. Just like in school, don’t be late. While their may not be harsh consequences like detention, lateness can annoy the instructor, and every minute you are late is a minute of instruction you miss out on.

* Be Unprepared- This is similar to being late, and may not apply if it’s your first lesson, however being unprepared is almost worse than being tardy. If the student has not reviewed what was previously completed and has no idea where the new lesson is going, this, obviously is not making the most productive use of the time spent. Don’t waste the teacher’s time, or yours.

* Have A Negative Attitude- The worst thing of all, and the one that can most drastically impact an outcome. If a student shows up with a negative attitude, it shows the instructor that they probably would rather be doing something else, and are not interested in learning Spanish. If you sign up for a session like this, and then show up unwilling to learn and take direction, you are pretty much guaranteed to make no progress, and you most likely will not have a fan in your instructor either.

In order to achieve the maximum amount of success when learning Spanish over the internet in a live format that requires scheduled lessons and instructor feedback, avoid the 3 things above whenever possible, and you will be speaking Spanish well before you know it and reaping the benefits of a solid online Spanish lesson experience

The reasons are about as varied as our population, why a person might choose to use an online Spanish language course. Perhaps they are going on vacation or maybe a business trip, or maybe even to stay long term, but if they are going to a country where Spanish is spoken, chances are they will need the language to get by.

Even if a person has no desire to learn Spanish other than to impress their friends, lover, family or themselves, it’s still important to learn. The ability to speak a second, or third language is a highly sought after and commendable skill.

Personally, I had always had an affinity for languages and a desire to travel far and wide. But, I also had dyslexia, a disorder that can make it very hard to learn things the way everyone else does. I struggled a lot in a traditional language class full of book drills, and focused on the excruciating details of grammar. I understood these things intrinsically, but being confronted with them day after day in a way that was difficult for me, made language learning much more difficult.

I knew their had to be a better way, because I desperately wanted to travel, and perhaps even live abroad while being an ESOL teacher. I was not going to let my dyslexia stop me. I tried several stand alone language learning products. Basically all of the popular brands. And with some of them, I found success.

But, it wasn’t until I signed up for my first of many online Spanish language courses that I began to really feel at ease and see progress. See, these kinds of lessons are a bit different. They work a little bit like a standard class in that you usually have a scheduled time… but it’s more like having a tutor than anything else.

Sessions often take place via web cam, and while non-traditional materials may be used, such as other internet resources, each session has a topic. Most of the places that offer this service even give a placement test with your first lesson.

This small tweak on standardized book based language learning made things come alive for me in a way that no classroom, or even the best stand alone software could do on its own.

Using these courses, no only did I gain Spanish language skills that enabled me to live my dream, I also was reaffirmed that there is no reason to ever let my Dyslexia stand in my way, because there is always a way around any difficulties that may arise, and in terms of learning Spanish, this is especially true when using online Spanish language courses.

Should you learn Spanish on line? Of course! Isn’t it best to go abroad to learn a language?

Yes, with some caveats. Do you have to go abroad to learn a language? No, it’s entirely possible to use the internet and learn Spanish very well.

So many studies these days are touting the benefits of studying abroad for optimal language acquisition, and there are indeed benefits. I am not disputing that, however, this is the way that I see it:

* Studying abroad is not an option for everyone, at least right away, and there are a variety of reasons for this. It should not be a limitation.

* A language learner will get more out of being able to study abroad if they have a proper foundation of the basics to begin with.

Going overseas is exciting, sure, but it can also be:

* Overwhelming- Culture shock is real.

* Time consuming- Not everyone has space in their work or school schedule to go for the amount of time it generally takes to start from the ground up and come out ahead.

* Expensive- There are some areas of the world that are very affordable, but most of those areas are a bit non-traditional, and most people going overseas to learn a language want a rounded experience with a lot of support. This can be costly, and not everyone has the money for these things, especially in this economy.

Any of the points made above are potential stumbling blocks for new language learners, but they don’t have to be obstacles. If a new learner makes the choice to learn Spanish online first, then the majority of the issues can be worked around. With a solid foundation in the basics, a trip abroad can have, or be:

* Less culture shock, because something is known about the language.
* Less time consuming, because the learner will not have to stay as long, and can use the time in country to focus on gaining more in depth skills.
* Less expensive, because with basic Spanish language skills, it is entirely possible to become a tutor, or find some other kind of language related work to help off set the cost of the trip.

Going abroad is still an excellent choice, and is highly recommended, but when done after the fundamentals are mastered, time spent abroad is more cost-effective overall, and can become less of a stumbling block for the majority of people. To learn Spanish on line is to make a wise decision for the future.

The decision to learn Spanish on line can be a big one, especially considering it’s only been fairly recently that the internet has come into its own in terms of providing quality education instead of being a shady place where only the tried and true scams reside.

But, now that the world wide web has some credibility, you should rest assured that language learning opportunities available in this format are quite wonderful.

However, as with anything, you get out of it what you put in, and if you don’t play your cards right, then choosing to learn Spanish on line could be a disaster. Here are 3 things that can sabotage your potential success:

* Not Having The Right Tools:

Deciding how you are going to go about acquiring your new language skills is probably the biggest decision you are going to make in this whole process, outside of course, which language to learn. Choosing the proper method of online language instruction can make or break your success with your new pursuit.

The number one reason most people fail to learn a new language to their satisfaction is because they lack the tools which make it possible for them to do so.

* Not Using Your Resources:

Similarly, the next big reason why people fail to succeed in learning a new language is not using the tools they so painstakingly chose.

Perhaps it comes from being overwhelmed, perhaps it comes from lack of work ethic or misguided expectations, but unless you are an active participant in your language education, you will fail. You could have all the tools in the world lying at your feet, but unless you use them fully, lying around is all they will do.

* Not Having The Right Mindset

I never realized the power the mind can have over some people, until I saw negativity and lack of confidence paralyze some of my students to the point where they could no longer progress.

It can happen, and is another big reason why people fail to make the progress they long for, in language or anything else in life. The number one rule of language learning is: Believe in yourself!

Do not let little things get you down, do not let doubters crowd your world with negativity, and do not give up on yourself. Positive thinking really does open doors, and it will in this area as well. Learn Spanish on line to reach your goals, and don’t fall into the traps.

It has been established that it is actually very appropriate to learn Spanish on line, in fact, if approached correctly, it’s possible to learn Spanish online and get better results than in a classroom environment.

If done incorrectly however, the outcome will not be good at all, and frustration will probably ensue. Here are three surefire tips to help you succeed, while harnessing the power of the Internet to help you learn Spanish:

* Make Sure That You Have The Appropriate Resources For Your Goals:

Whether it’s audio Spanish lessons, some language learning software, a dictionary, a verb conjugation book, free resources or a combination of all of the above, having the correct resources will make a big difference.

* Use What You Have- Just Because You Are Learning On Your Own Doesn’t Mean You Can’t Immerse Yourself:

Don’t be afraid to label everyday materials with their Spanish vocabulary counterpart. This is a very easy way to continually be exposed to the language, and the more times that happens, the more likely the brain is to pick up the new concepts and hold on to them. Several weeks of doing this will greatly increase your vocabulary.

* Be Persistent, And Have No Fear:

It’s clich
